From the beginning, Baptist Health has embraced the highest standards of nursing excellence set by the profession. Our two largest hospitals are members of an elite group of healthcare facilities recognized for their stellar nursing care, and the rest of our hospitals are in the process of qualifying for the same recognition.

We are proud that in 1998, Baptist Hospital was the first hospital in Florida, and the 11th in the nation, to meet the rigorous requirements of the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program for nursing excellence.

In early 2017, after four ANCC appraisers surveyed the hospital and interviewed hundreds of employees, physicians and community members, Baptist Hospital earned its fifth consecutive Magnet designation. This achievement is shared by fewer than 1 percent of hospitals in the United States. Magnet status lasts four years and is a signal to patients and the community that they can expect top-quality nursing care.

Baptist Health hospitals have a longstanding reputation for offering the highest-quality medical care. This reputation was reinforced when Mariners Hospital achieved Pathway to Excellence designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center in 2012. Mariners was the first hospital in the state of Florida to receive this designation, which serves as confirmation of Mariners’ commitment to nursing excellence and an environment where collaboration between all hospital departments is highly valued and supported.

Doctors Hospital, Homestead Hospital, South Miami Hospital and West Kendall Baptist Hospital have also achieved Magnet designation, introducing shared governance as the foundation. The philosophy and structure of sharing authority and responsibility for decision making is designed to build collaboration, communication and trust, and to empower all members of the nursing staff.
