Meet Our Nursing Leaders

Diane Amado-Tate, DNP, MS-HSA, R.N., NE-BC, is a transformational leader with more than 28 years of nursing experience. She drives a culture of high performance and continuous improvement, leading Doctors Hospital to earn its first Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center in 2019. She serves as the lead chief nurse for Baptist Health and chair of the system-wide Patient Care Leadership Council.

Ms. Amado-Tate joined Baptist Health in 1997 as a staff nurse at South Miami Hospital. Over the next 17 years, she held various positions increasing the breadth of her responsibilities. Prior to being appointed chief nursing officer at Doctors Hospital in 2014, she served as assistant vice president of South Miami Hospital and was responsible for optimizing clinical quality, safety and service standards in the hospital’s emergency center, critical care units and respiratory and pulmonary departments.

Ms. Amado-Tate received a Bachelor of Science in nursing, graduating cum laude from Hunter College in New York, where she began her nursing career at NYU Medical Center. She earned a Master of Science in nursing at the University of Phoenix and a Master of Science in health services administration at Barry University in Miami. She is a Board-certified nurse executive through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Ms. Amado-Tate is a member of the American Organization of Nursing Leadership, American Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau. She was recognized as one of South Florida’s Most Powerful and Influential Black Leaders in 2018, and top Black Healthcare Professional in 2019 by Legacy magazine. She is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and several other community service organizations. She lives in Palmetto Bay with her two children and enjoys music, dancing, traveling and experiencing other cultures.

Ron Burke, MSN, R.N., NEA-BC, CEN, has served as vice president and chief nursing officer at Mariners Hospital in Tavernier and Fishermen’s Community Hospital in Marathon since December 2021. Mr. Burke has been with Baptist Health since 2007, previously serving as the assistant vice president of Nursing Critical Care and Oncology Services at Baptist Hospital of Miami. With more than 20 years of progressive leadership experience in a healthcare setting, Mr. Burke has actively worked to support the nursing profession.

Mr. Burke earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in nursing from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. He has also earned the Nurse Executive Advanced board certification and is a Certified Emergency Nurse.

Ana Cabrera, DNP, ACNP-BC, NEA-BC, CCRN, has more than 30 years of nursing experience, serving more than half of them in nursing leadership. She joined Baptist Health South Florida in 1988 and has been with Homestead Hospital for 20 years.

Dr. Cabrera has extensive experience overseeing perinatal services, surgical services, critical care, progressive care, as well as the adult and pediatric emergency departments. She has been an active member of the hospital’s medical staff as an advanced practice registered nurse and is a member of the American Nurses Association and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Dr. Cabrera earned a Master of Science in nursing and a Doctorate in nursing practice from Barry University in Miami. She is Board-certified as an acute care nurse practitioner, nurse executive advanced and a critical care registered nurse. She lives in Homestead with her husband, Gabriel, and has two grown children.

Esteemed nurse and healthcare leader Vicki Caraway, R.N., BSN, MBA, NE-BC, is chief nursing officer at Miami Cancer Institute, part of Baptist Health South Florida.

Ms. Caraway has more than 32 years of oncology nursing experience. Most recently, she was vice president of Nursing Research and Care Management at Florida Cancer Specialists (FCS) and American Oncology Network, sister companies. While there, she established the first FCS-wide genetic counseling program and the first FCS palliative/support care program.

Previously she spent 28 years at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, where she served in many leadership roles, heading strategic organizational-wide initiatives in nursing, revenue cycle, operations and research. She also oversaw the planning, construction and opening of Moffitt’s 207,000-square-foot outpatient satellite facility on the McKinley Campus. Ms. Caraway began her nursing career in Athens, Georgia, where she cared for patients in the surgical and neuro units. She earned her BSN in nursing from the University of Tampa and her MBA from St. Leo University.

At Miami Cancer Institute, Ms. Caraway’s responsibilities include overseeing all nursing functions, and assuring safety, quality, and high patient and staff satisfaction, as well as nursing excellence.

With an interest in nursing mentorship and palliative and supportive care, Ms. Caraway is a member of the Florida Palliative Care Coalition and winner of the 2018 Diversity Award. She is active in numerous professional committees and enjoys volunteering, spending time with her husband, John, and their family, traveling, antiquing and home renovations.

A seasoned professional with more than 40 years in nursing practice and leadership, Melissa Durbin has served as vice president and chief nursing officer at Boca Raton Regional Hospital since 2013. In this capacity, she is responsible for all nursing and other patient-care functions and services within the organization. Ms. Durbin manages the assessment, planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of nursing practices on a facility level. She is accountable for ensuring high-quality, safe and appropriate nursing care, competency of clinical staff and effective resource management.

Ms. Durbin joined Boca Regional in 2006 as executive director of Lynn Heart & Vascular Institute and the hospital’s critical care and emergency services. Prior to that post, she was director of trauma and critical care services at Delray Medical Center.

She currently serves as a board member for the Florida Organization of Nurse Executives and the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing Advisory Board at Florida Atlantic University. She is past president of the Nursing Consortium of South Florida and the Florida Organization of Nurse Executives.

Ms. Durbin received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in nursing, with an emphasis in nursing leadership from Florida Atlantic University.

Harold Girado, MSN, RN, joined South Miami Hospital in 1997 and during the next 18 years he held such roles as nurse clinician, assistant manager, manager, director and assistant vice president of vascular and interventional services. His dedication was rewarded in 2010 when he was honored as South Miami Hospital leader of the year. In 2015, he assumed the role of vice president of operations for Baptist Hospital and Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute and in early 2020, he was named the hospital’s chief nursing officer.

Mr. Girado has been an integral part in leading change as the organization transitioned to a fully integrated cardiovascular information system and electronic health record. He is passionate about creating and supporting a culture focused on employee engagement, quality care, patient safety, patient experience and fiscal responsibility. His abilities to offer support and make people feel valued are evident in his leadership style. His departments’ physician, employee and patient satisfaction scores have been consistently high.

Mr. Girado earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Florida International University and a Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Phoenix. He is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives.

Dr. Janisse P. Marin is the assistant vice president of nursing and chief nursing officer for Baptist Outpatient Services (BOS). In her role, she provides leadership and direction for the nursing staff and is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and overseeing nursing functions while providing strategic leadership and support for BOS. Janisse directs accreditation activities, regulatory compliance, patient safety and infection control and quality and performance improvement for all service lines. 

Janisse is a highly accomplished nurse leader with vast experience in education, research, regulatory readiness and value-based purchasing, patient safety, quality and performance improvement, ambulatory care management and healthcare informatics. She joined BOS in 2021, serving as director of nursing for the acute care division with oversight for nursing administration services for Baptist Health Urgent Care and Urgent Care Express Centers, Diagnostic Imaging, Infusion and Baptist Health Emergency Care. Throughout her tenure, she successfully redesigned quality, education and safety processes and tools for regulatory compliance and accreditation readiness. She led the implementation and adherence of COVID-19 protocols and infection control practices and was instrumental in standardizing quality processes through the adoption of high-reliability principles. 

Janisse earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Florida Atlantic University. She has a master’s in healthcare administration from Barry University, and most recently earned a doctorate in healthcare administration and a master’s in nursing from Nova Southeastern University. She is a past adjunct faculty member of Florida International University’s School of Nursing and has published and presented for multiple research initiatives since 2007. Additionally, she has given several presentations at professional conferences and has been published in numerous journals.

Sandra McLean, MSN, MSHA, R.N., NEA-BC, is a renowned community critical care nursing leader with more than 35 years of diverse nursing experience, including 22 years in nursing leadership. She has been with Baptist Health since 2004.

Ms. McLean is dedicated to promoting excellence, professionalism and compassion in the nursing profession. She advocates for high-quality patient care, a resilient and engaged nursing workforce, a collaborative interpersonal team and a family-inclusive care environment. She provides a strong administrative and clinical atmosphere that promotes staff education, development, flexibility and change agility.

Ms. McLean completed her undergraduate nursing education at the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica. She earned a Master of Science in health services administration and a Master of Science in nursing from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. She is a Board-certified nurse executive advanced through the American Nurses Credentialing Center and a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives, the Florida Organization of Nurse Executives and the American Nurses Association.

Ms. McLean was recognized as one of South Florida’s Most Powerful and Influential Black Leaders in 2019. She has served in several not-for-profit volunteer service organizations and community board leadership positions. She is the proud mother of three children.

Paul Mungo, MSN, MSM/HS, R.N., NE-BC, has more than 30 years of healthcare experience. He began his career as a trauma nurse in the Boston area before moving to Miami to join Doctors Hospital, where he advanced from a position in the Emergency Department to senior-level executive roles. He served seven years as vice president of clinical operations at Doctors Hospital, with responsibility for the professional, operational, clinical, quality and financial performance of surgical services, imaging services, social work/case management, physician relations and contracting, infection control and all specialty service areas. Prior to this role, he held the position of assistant vice president of operations for five years.

Mr. Mungo is committed to providing superior patient- and family-centered care, enhancing patient safety and achieving positive clinical outcomes. As a leader, he focuses on creating an engaging work environment that promotes job satisfaction and encourages higher learning and career advancement of staff members.

He graduated magna cum laude from Barry University with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. He earned a Master of Science in management at St. Thomas University and was selected as a member of Kappa Gamma Pi Honor Society for excellence in leadership, scholarship, faith and service. He also earned a Master of Science degree in nursing at Walden University and Board-certification as a nurse executive from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
