About Baptist Health Maternity Services
Every patient has access to highly skilled experts and the latest technology to ensure a safe birth for their newborn. Obstetricians, anesthesiologists and nurses on our staff are dedicated to your comfort and safety. Neonatologists are available 24 hours a day to provide your little one with specialized care. We also have specialized OB emergency department physicians available at all of our hospitals around the clock.
Our team has built a family-centered atmosphere at each of our hospitals with maternity services and encourages family involvement in the birthing experience. Our physicians work with you to design the birth experience you want. You’ll find private rooms decorated to feel like home, and after you deliver your baby, you’ll move to a similarly decorated private room or suite, where your baby will stay with you, as you get to know each other.
Am I in labor?
The 5-1-1 Rule:
Contractions come every 5 minutes, lasting 1 minute each, for at least 1 hour.
How do I time contractions?
You time from the start of one to the start of the second in minutes. If you are concerned about anything, do not hesitate to call your healthcare provider.
You should definitely call your healthcare provider or go to the hospital if:
- Heavy vaginal bleeding
- Baby has not moved in several hours
- Sudden severe pain that doesn’t go away with rest
- Leaking greenish fluids
- Water breaks and labor doesn’t start
- Three weeks or more before due date and have contractions
- You’ve reached the 5-1-1 rule point with labor
