Am I in labor?

Am I in labor?

The 5-1-1 Rule:

Contractions come every 5 minutes, lasting 1 minute each, for at least 1 hour.

How do I time contractions?

You time from the start of one to the start of the second in minutes. If you are concerned about anything, do not hesitate to call your healthcare provider.

You should definitely call your healthcare provider or go to the hospital if:

  • Heavy vaginal bleeding
  • Baby has not moved in several hours
  • Sudden severe pain that doesn’t go away with rest
  • Leaking greenish fluids
  • Water breaks and labor doesn’t start
  • Three weeks or more before due date and have contractions
  • You’ve reached the 5-1-1 rule point with labor
