Bo Boulenger is President and Chief Executive Officer of Baptist Health South Florida, which is among the nation's largest not-for-profit healthcare systems with a workforce of 27,000 employees and 4,000 affiliated physicians. Baptist Health has a national reputation for quality. In its Best Hospital Rankings, U.S. News & World Report has consistently recognized Baptist Health among the top healthcare organizations nationwide. It is also rated among the 100 Best Companies to Work For in America by Fortune magazine more than 20 times.
Mr. Boulenger is responsible for the strategic direction of the health system, which includes 12 hospitals and more than 200 outpatient facilities and physician practices spanning four counties, as well as Miami Cancer Institute, Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, Baptist Health Orthopedic Care, Miami Neuroscience Institute, Lynn Cancer Institute, Marcus Neuroscience Institute and Lynn Heart & Vascular Institute. He is focused on advancing evidence-based care across the organization by driving innovation through clinical research and recruiting world-renowned experts to provide the highest quality of care.
Baptist Health serves a population of 6.5 million people, treats more than 1.5 million patients each year and provides more than $400 million per year in charity care and community benefit.
Mr. Boulenger has been instrumental in expanding Baptist Health’s footprint, increasing access to care across South Florida. He was part of the affiliation team responsible for the mergers with Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Bethesda Hospital East, Bethesda Hospital West and Fishermen’s Community Hospital, and he spearheaded the integration of operations to achieve scale and harmonization of all care practices throughout the system. He has also overseen some of the largest campus expansion projects in Baptist Health’s history, including at Baptist Hospital, one of the state’s largest emergency centers with 100 exam rooms, a new bed tower and a surgery center expansion; the construction of a new $140 million dollar hospital in Homestead; and, a major expansion of Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute that doubled the facility’s size.
Mr. Boulenger earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Washington University in St. Louis. With more than 35 years of experience in healthcare administration, he began his career with Baptist Health in 1985 at South Miami Hospital in strategic planning focusing on opening new outpatient ventures, including home healthcare and radiation oncology. In 1994, he was named CEO of Homestead Hospital, and in 2006 he became CEO of Baptist Hospital. Under Mr. Boulenger’s leadership, Baptist Hospital achieved unprecedented levels of quality and patient satisfaction resulting in national recognition by U.S. News & World Report, the American College of Surgeons, Leapfrog Group and National Research Corporation. In 2017, U.S. News & World Report ranked Baptist Hospital the #1 overall full-service hospital in South Florida. Mr. Boulenger served as Chief Operating Officer of Baptist Health for six years before being named President and CEO in 2022.
Mr. Boulenger is immediate past chair of the Florida Hospital Association’s (FHA) Board of Trustees. He is a member of the Florida Council of 100. He has also served on numerous boards, including American Hospital Association – Section for Metropolitan Hospitals, Governing Council YMCA of Greater Miami, South Florida Healthcare Association, Vizient Southeast, South Dade Chamber of Commerce (former Board Chair) and Vision Council of South Dade. Other current/past affiliations and memberships include: Florida International University Community Advisory Council, American Heart Association (Chair, 2011 Heart Walk), City of Homestead Community Advisory Committee, American College of Healthcare Executives, Rotary Club, Homestead-Florida City Military Affairs Committee, Director, Homestead YMCA, Early Childhood Development Foundation, City of Homestead Community Relations Board and Transportation Committee, Homestead Sports Activity Board, Florida International University President’s Advisory Committee and Miami-Dade College President’s Advisory Committee. He has been named “Ultimate CEO” and South Florida’s “Power Leader” in Healthcare by the South Florida Business Journal. An avid swimmer and outdoorsman, Mr. Boulenger enjoys freediving, fishing, surfing and tennis. He and his wife, Elizabeth, live in Kendall and have four children.
