South Miami Hospital is proud to have earned the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet designation for the fourth time in 2019. Magnet recognition by the ANCC is the highest honor for nursing excellence a hospital can achieve.

Magnet-designated organizations provide the highest quality care for patients, families and the community through support and investment in nursing education and development. Interprofessional collaborative practice is nurtured, with a focus on mutual respect, autonomy and shared values. This culture helps to attract and reward the best in nursing talent. According to research, Magnet-designated organizations have a higher level of nurse and patient satisfaction.

Our Commitment to Excellence

Our Commitment to Excellence

South Miami Hospital nurses are committed to serving our patients and our community, as reflected in our mission statement . . . “to improve the health and well-being of individuals and to promote the sanctity and preservation of life in the communities we serve.”

Our commitment to providing nursing excellence through evidence-based leading practices results in high-quality competent care, sensitivity to diversity and the achievement of positive clinical outcomes. In our pursuit of excellence, we have created a practice environment that supports research and innovation and enhances the professional practice of nursing.

Nursing Contributions

Our nurses make invaluable contributions to South Miami Hospital’s outstanding reputation for clinical and service excellence through initiatives that can be classified under the four Magnet model components, with a focus on Empirical Outcomes that demonstrate how our nurses provide excellent patient care with the best possible outcome.

Transformational Leadership

Transformational leaders achieve superior results through outstanding clinical knowledge, idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration.

Advocating for Patients

Through the efforts of a nurse-led team, the patient fall rate per 1,000 patient days was reduced, outperforming the national benchmark.

Through a leadership-driven initiative to keep patients safe, the Ecolab® Hand Hygiene Compliance Monitoring System was implemented to record hand hygiene events of all staff members entering clinical areas to reduce the rate of hospital-acquired conditions.

Structural Empowerment

Structural empowerment involves the creation of a workplace environment that supports exemplary professional practice, organizational goals, collaborative relationships and staff knowledge and empowerment to achieve improved outcomes.

Aligned with South Miami Hospital’s nursing strategic goals, nearly half of our nurses are nationally certified in their specialty, and more than 80 percent have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher.
