When you think of cardiac care, you probably think of heart care. But your blood vessels — arteries and veins — are equally important. And if you have a problem that affects your circulation, you could need vascular surgery.

At Baptist Health, our Vascular Surgery team can provide the personalized, comprehensive care you need through inpatient, outpatient or same-day procedures. Giving you the best outcome is our priority, so our experts decide if a minimally invasive endovascular technique or a traditional open surgery is right for you.

We look forward to delivering compassionate, state-of-the-art care that improves your blood flow.

Types of Vascular Conditions

Vascular disease is common in the United States, and it can affect any blood vessel in your circulatory system. Our surgeons have extensive experience in treating a wide range of vascular conditions, including:

Vascular Surgery Treatments

Our highly skilled vascular surgery group has the experience to deliver leading-edge surgical care through minimally invasive and traditional procedures. Your doctor can help you decide which option is best for you.

Aortic Repair

This procedure is used to treat an aneurysm. Your surgeon replaces the damaged or diseased part of your aorta, to prevent it from rupturing and causing death.

Angioplasty and Stenting of the Arteries and Veins

These procedures are the most common treatment for peripheral arterial disease. During an angioplasty, your surgeon threads a long flexible tube (a catheter) carrying a small balloon through a needle puncture to the problem site. After blowing up the balloon to widen the blood vessel, they deflate and remove it. At the same time, your surgeon may implant a hollow, mesh tube (a stent) in your blood vessel to keep it upon permanently.

Bypass Surgery for Extremity Artery Blockages

Your surgeon can use one of several procedures to repair or replace damaged blood vessels in your legs and feet.

Hemodialysis Access

This procedure creates an access point that enables your blood to run through a dialysis machine. During this procedure, your surgeon will create one of these access points:

  • Fistula: Joining an artery and vein in your arm
  • Graft: Using a piece of soft tube to join an artery and vein in your arm
  • Catheter: A soft tube placed in a large vein, usually the neck

If you have kidney failure, we can provide the hemodialysis services you need.

Endovascular Aortic Aneurysm Repair (EVAR, TEVAR)

These are minimally invasive procedures. In an EVAR procedure, your surgeon threads a catheter through a small incision in your groin until it reaches the aneurysm that is in your abdomen. Using small, specially designed tools, they place a stent inside the aneurysm to prevent rupture. The TEVAR procedure is similar, but it is intended for aortic aneurysms in your chest. In both procedures, over time the aneurysm can shrink and reduce the risk of rupture.
