Meet the Team
Our multidisciplinary team includes endocrinologists, a fellowship trained endocrine surgeon, registered nurses, certified diabetes educators, dieticians, community health professionals and support staff who specialize in endocrinology and metabolism disorders.
Some endocrinology disorders can be treated with medication or hormone supplements. When surgery is needed, we have fellowship trained endocrine surgeons and we work closely with neurosurgeons at Miami Neuroscience Institute and surgical oncologists from Miami Cancer Institute. Some endocrine disorders may be treated with interventional radiology, so specialists from Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute may be called to perform certain minimally invasive procedures. These experts provide the most advanced treatments available for disorders and tumors that affect the endocrine system.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
The most common cause for endocrine or metabolic disorders is the malfunction of the pituitary, adrenal or thyroid glands, or pancreas, which manufacture hormones that keep your body functioning properly. When these glands make too much or too little of their hormone, the body reacts with unusual symptoms.
-
When your thyroid, the butterfly-shaped gland located in the front of your neck, malfunctions and either produces too much (hyperthyroidism) or too little (hypothyroidism) hormone or develops nodules, an endocrinologist can determine the best treatment.
Often medications to regulate hormone production restore the proper function of the thyroid, improving symptoms of weight fluctuations, restlessness or fatigue, or heart rhythm irregularities.
Noncancerous nodules, which may appear as lumps under the skin on the front of the neck, often need to be surgically removed or shrunk with radioiodine treatments. Both treatments are available at Baptist Health South Florida.
